Emily Dorrian
Emily has been a practising Homeopath since she received her licentiate qualification from The Centre of Homeopathic Education in 2020.
With both parents as Homeopaths, this complementary therapy approach has always been a part of Emily’s life. Using homeopathy as the first port of call for any health imbalance or minor injury of her own, Emily now enjoys treating people and teaching others how to take ownership of their health by using their own homeopathic kit.
Skin health is a passion of Emily’s: personally she struggled with acne when she was younger and now her young son has moderate to severe Atopic Dermatitis. Emily understands that when looking at the skin there is often a multitude of factors that can play into any problems that occur for individuals. She always looks at what is under the surface and tries to get to the root cause of any problem before treating that person accordingly.
Emily says:
"The skin is the body’s largest organ so often there can be underlying issues when we see an imbalance with skin. This can be anything from hormonal imbalance and emotional stress to gut and digestive troubles. Often treatments that come from our doctors, whilst very helpful in the short term, can be suppressive and will only treat the symptom rather than cure the cause behind the issue being experienced.
There are so many Homeopathic remedies that come up when we think about skin and to learn which one may be appropriate for each individual, a full case is taken. Homeopathy is so marvellous because it takes into account the whole person. So, while we will focus on your skin, we will also talk about your sleep, diet and gut health. We will ask questions around your hormonal health and your mental/emotional wellbeing, amongst other things, to really understand the holistic picture and get to the root cause of what is going on.
Skin:Genius is a fantastic complement to homeopathic treatment for the skin with several key ingredients - including Calendula and Chamomile - which we homeopaths also often use in remedy form".
Q & A with Emily Dorrian
What is homeopathy?
Homeopathy is a form of complementary medicine that aims to stimulate the body's own healing response through use of highly diluted natural substances.
How can homeopathic remedies help my skin?
Homeopathy can help by holistically treating you and your own experience of a skin issue by trying to get to the root cause, rather than just treating the symptom or diagnosis.
For example, two people may present with very similar looking Acne but would not get the same prescription. This is because one person's may be due to a hormonal imbalance while the other may be stress or gut/diet related. One person’s skin may get better in the sun, while another's may be better when it’s cold. An individual case is taken for each person and treatment is tailored appropriately.
What happens in a homeopathic consultation?
The first consultation usually takes up to an hour.
The homeopath will ask lots of questions about you and your health. The questions will be about your skin - when did it start, are there any physical or emotional reasons that you are aware of that may contribute, what makes it worse/better - but also, importantly, about your general health, your sleep, your diet, your mental/emotional wellbeing. This is to really try and understand the whole picture before offering an individualised, tailored approach.
Are there any side effects when taking homeopathic remedies?
No, Homeopathic remedies are safe and have no harmful side effects. The remedies can also most likely be taken alongside any necessary medication.
