Feed Your Face for Healthy Skin

It is important to eat well to keep your skin in tip top condition. Here are some hints to help:

5 a day

Eat five portions of fruit and vegetables daily. Fruit and veg are full of vitamins and minerals. Making sure your body has enough vitamins and minerals will make sure you get all the goodness you need to help heal and prevent sore skin.

Vitamin C found in most fruits especially citrus fruits and berries will help to heal spots more quickly. Vitamin C is also found in tomatoes.

Beta-carotene is found in foods that are red yellow and orange, like carrots and bell peppers. Beta-carotene will help to calm inflammation in your skin.

Eat Nuts and Seeds

Brazil nuts are not only delicious they are rich in Selenium, which is a powerful antioxidant that helps to improve acne by protecting the skin cells from damage and helps to maintain the skin’s elasticity. Nuts and Seeds such as Walnuts and Sunflower seeds are full of essential fatty acids which will help to moisturize your skin from the inside and can stop excess production of sebum.

Drink more Water

Our bodies are made up of around 70% water!! We need plenty of good fresh water to help our body to function well. Drinking plenty of water is essential for a good digestive system and most importantly to help us flush out toxins. The flushing out of toxins is important because if we have a lot of toxins in our body they will be eliminated first by our kidneys and our liver and then by our skin, possibly resulting in spots!! To keep our system healthy and our skin hydrated we should drink around 6-8 glasses of water every day. If you don’t usually drink much water try to build up to this level gradually. Drink a glass of water as soon as you wake in the morning. Try drinking a glass of water mid-morning and mid-afternoon. It does not take long to see the benefits, as your skin will look clearer and fresher within a week.

Banish Sugar

You would be amazed how much sugar the average person can eat in a week!! Some pasta sauces contain as much sugar as a can of Coca Cola. Get used to reading ingredients on the packaging. Remember that every 4 grams of sugar means one teaspoon of sugar. If your blood sugar levels are high it puts you at risk of Diabetes, weight gain and acne. Bacteria live on the sugar in our blood and the less sugar you have in your system, the less spots you are likely to get. If you cannot banish it at least try to cut it down and eat more healthy whole foods whenever possible.
